Shadow Over History

SOUTH KOREA. Seoul. 2013.

Just a few steps into an alleyway branching off from a busy street in Seoul. The entire work, the rest of which extends to the left of the frame, depicts heros and heroines of the Korean independence movement. I have little to say directly and explicitly, though this photograph in fact means a great deal to me.

    1. They’re the dates of birth and death. In most European countries the custom is to write DD/MM/YYYY; in the U.S., MM/DD/YYYY. In Korea it’s YYYY/MM/DD. Gwan-Soon Yu died when she was 18.
